Schizo Fun Addict
Just a Dimension Away
Sudden Bliss Records 2000

Another Uncut recommendation, this. They said it sounded like Royal Trux, which was what sent me off to try it, and it’s pretty true. It’s like Trux if they’d recognised the existence of any music after 1975, so partly you get messy, spacy art-rock at a drawling, laidback pace (with male and female vocals, too), but then they also get all experimental with hip hop rhythms and samples as well. By the same token, if Trux-type fuzzy effects and out-of-tune singing make you unhappy, you’d better steer clear. I thought it was great, though. It’s like they’re taking songs apart and seeing how they work and somehow it’s very pleasant to hear it happen. I ended up playing it loads without really realising it was happening. Crap name, though.
